Identification of Human Resource Rotational Strategies at the Time of Recession of Small and Medium Businesses

Abstract

Business environment seems to be complex, dynamic and increasingly competitive in today’s economics. The need to encounter this competitive environment has made enterprises suffer decline. As human resource plays important roles in the improvement of organizations and their survival in recessions, this research is aimed at identifying new dimensions of human resource in recessions. The statistical population of the research contains top managers of food industry companies having experienced a minimum period of one-year decline. Qualitative content analysis is used in this research, and snowball method is employed for interviewing. It is worth mentioning that this research is the result of semi-structured interviews with sample managers from eleven executives of outstanding companies. The results illustrated that human resource strategies at the time of recession include 6 themes, 12 components and 39 items, including CEO level strategy, senior management level strategy, cost reduction strategy, innovative human resource strategy, culture change strategy, and ultimately an innovative strategy. The titles of some themes are the same as the literature; however, the sub-components and constructor items are somewhat different. Furthermore, introducing innovative theme in the literary is an innovative outcome of this research.
