Abstract

This research is aimed at identifying and prioritize factors affecting attraction and retention of faculty members in universities. Hence, the factors influencing the attraction and retention of faculty members based on Verhaegen’s study were identified and localized. This research is based on best-worst method (BWM) for ranking the factors. The questionnaire, designed according to the best-worst model, was presented to university professors engaged in teaching and investigating in the field of human resource for years, and to comment separately on attraction and retention of scientific talents. The research community includes all applicants and the present faculty members at universities. The informant sample is composed of five matured and experienced professionals in order to localize the conceptual model of research, and to have their comments on priority ranking questionnaires. Hence, it can be claimed that judgmental and purposive sampling method is used for sampling. The results indicated that it is important to pay attention to the factors of brand and university reputation and their values and cultures play important roles in attracting scientific talents. Furthermore, in order to succeed in the retention of the present scientific talents, it is important to pay attention to the values, the culture, and the atmosphere of instruction. Considering the important factors identified in this research can help better attraction of scientific talents for universities.
