A Model for Coaching Leadership based on the Grounded Theory Approach (Case Study: The Iranian Electricity Industry)

Abstract

Coaching leadership is a new leadership style used by today’s leading organizations. This study using a mixed approach to develop a model for coaching leadership in the Iranian electricity industry. In the qualitative part, the grounded theory method was used and the target population included prominent experts and college professors specializing in the areas of leadership and coaching, with 16 of whom semi-structured interviews were conducted. The latest relevant sources were also analyzed. To analyze the data in the qualitative part, open, axial and selective coding by MAXQDA2020 software the using the systematic approach of Strauss and Corbin. During the initial coding process, 791 open codes, 35 axial codes, and 6 selective codes were identified. Based on the conceptual research model, coaching leadership was identified as the core phenomenon. In addition, the authors identified the components of the coaching leadership model, strategies for implementing the model, and the outcomes of implementing the coaching leadership model. In the quantitative part, statistical population included all employees of the public sector of the electricity industry, which included 16899 people, and among them, using the Cochran's formula, 370 people were selected by multi-stage cluster sampling. A 76-item researcher-made questionnaire was used to collect data. Structural equation modeling by Smart-PLS3 software was used to analyze the data in the quantitative part.
